This is an interesting case that recently came out of the Tennessee Court of Appeals. You can find it here. In Christenberry v. Christenberry, after a 36 year marriage and subsequent divorce, the wife wisely filed a lien on the unpaid amounts that the husband refused to pay. The lien was filed on the property that he retained from the divorce. When the property was to be sold at auction, the wife went to collect. A lawsuit ensued. The Court of Appeals overturned the lower court ruling and determined that she was within her rights to collect on the divorce this way.
This was a very good move.
